September Update

This past July I attended Level Two of the Soundwork Practitioner program with Gary Diggins, his faculty, and a grouping of participants that quickly became a community. I found this level both profound and challenging. The training gave me more of a foundational understanding around designing and conducting soundwork sessions for groups. At one point, the process challenged me in terms of working in smaller teams to create and conduct sonic rituals and therapeutic journeys for the class.

This time around,I was able to integrate the work more readily. Despite the difficulty of learning new material, I felt comfortable diving in. I am appreciative that I was able to use my accommodations (such as a recording device) to go back and reflect on the content. The training allowed me to embody more of my voice an that is not always easy for me. In the end, I affirmed how comfortable I am with using my didgeridoo and finding ways to listen for what needs to come forward in working with another person.

Gary and I hosted our first didgeridoo workshop in August of this year. We had a good turn out and more people wanted to attend. While I am co-facilitating with Gary, I am also learning a lot, such as how to impart techniques and gifts of the didgeridoo. Although Gary has expertise as a musician, I am learning what my strengths are as a teacher and player. I received some good feedback about my approach and see this as a stepping stone.

This summer I travelled out to Western Canada and took my didgeridoo with me. At one point, during my visit to Salt Spring, B.C., I was invited to participate in a ritual and play the didgeridoo. I used my instrument to blow sounds and breath into three friends, around their hearts and bodies. Increasingly, I am learning to listen to what is being called for in terms of extending drones and making ambient sounds. Each time, I call in Divine Presence to guide me. Circular breathing is still not my forte and may never be, but this does not matter as the drones and breaths come from within me and are presented in a spirit of intentionality. Everyone involved in the ritual took part in a letting go process and experienced a unique, sound healing.

I am presently marketing Birth Stories, my CD project, and will share with you next month some potential opportunities for getting this work out into the world.
