An UpdateIn the last several months, I have facilitated a workshop for public school students in Oakville helping students to understand the cultural significance of the didgeridoo, the sacred instrument of Australia’s Aboriginal people. I taught children how to accompany the didgeridoo with drumming and gave each student an opportunity to play this extraordinary instrument. Students with disabilities attended the workshop. I collaborated with Ann-Marie Boudreau, a Toronto-based soundwork practitioner, in an evening of journeying soundscapes hosted at Vivace Studio. I not only played didgeridoo but also contributed to the Journey with impressionistic instruments, percussion, and voice. I played a significant part in the Dreaming section of the BIG BEAT, a Summer Solstice celebration hosted by Gary Diggins. I played the didgeridoo over participants as they dropped deeply into a place of meditation and relaxation. I recently traveled to the Boston area to bring my version of soundwork to individuals in need of care and compassion. I used my didgeridoo in a therapeutic context as well as played other ambient instruments. I am currently cultivating individual sessions with clients who are drawn to my combination of didgeridoo, ritual space, and mindful listening practices. My work with Gary Diggins continues to enrich my learning and so I will complete Level Two of the Soundwork Practitioner’s Training program in August. Leave a Reply |
